Message From our Executive Director

It was an amazing moment in my life to be chosen as the Executive Director for the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Who knew that the range of experience gained over a 25-year period in the world of sports and sport administration would lead me to this moment. It is an honor to be able to work with an amazing group of people and serve the Tampa Bay community in this capacity.

As I research the twenty-year history of the TIGLFF, I am learning so much about the Tampa Bay area and community. I am drawn to this organization where the passion and enthusiasm are not only contagious, but a strong component of its success; partly, due to the brave community leaders and enlightened visionaries who created the festival so many years ago. This is a moment to put on a wide-angle lens and take a three hundred and sixty degree view of the film festival and use its rich history to begin the steps forward into a new decade.

It is my belief, that there should be a place for one small voice to be heard. The Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is that place. Whether it is economic challenges or historic levels of disaster that try the human spirit, we all need a place to gather with family and friends to share both tears and laughter. The TIGLFF gives us that treasured gift; it is that place.

Growth, in this tough economic atmosphere, takes as much perseverance today as in those first fragile years of the film festival. It will take every Board and staff member, each and every volunteer, community leader and filmmaker to keep our focus on that goal. Our film festival is one of the best attended with the most positive feedback in the nation. It will take all of us who believe in artistic freedom and the rights of the GLBTQ community to build on the strong foundation of those before us.

I look forward to this awesome opportunity!

Rosie
